How to create random pairs

For example, add Anna Martin, Charles Lee, Laura Green, Michael Smith, Paula Brown, Simon Taylor, Martha Wilson and David Jones on separate lines. Random pairs for padel and sports

Random padel pairs are one of the most common uses. Enter the players to organise friendly matches, training, Americanas, club days, informal tournaments or rotations without choosing the duos beforehand.

Eight players produce four pairs; ten produce five. The tool matches people but does not balance ability, position, age or experience. If those factors matter, classify the list first or apply the relevant sporting rules. To build a complete bracket, continue with the tournament generator.

Create random pairs in the classroom

Teachers and schools can form pairs for assignments, exercises, conversation, shared reading, experiments, presentations, debates and language activities. Changing the combinations adds variety and prevents students from always working with the same person.

Paste the class list, generate the distribution and explain beforehand how an odd place will be handled. When minors take part, use only the data required: first names, initials, aliases or internal identifiers, and avoid unnecessary personal information.

Pairs for games, workshops and team building

Paste twelve names and get six combinations for board games, scavenger hunts, escape rooms, contests, parties, camps or family activities. Everyone immediately knows who they are doing the activity with, and nobody has to select the pairs manually.

Companies, associations and workshops can mix people from their usual departments, tables or groups for introductions, case exercises, short mentoring or team-building activities. The distribution is random; it does not consider affinity, role, knowledge or skill.

What happens when the participant count is odd

If you enter 7, 11 or 15 participants, one person remains unpaired and is identified separately. They are not removed from the list or automatically added to a group of three: the result keeps groups of two.

For sports and games, use that place as a rest and rotate it in the next round. In class or workshops, assign an individual task or decide beforehand how to create a trio. Check the total before generating so that you can communicate the rule clearly.

Random pairs, teams and name draws

Random pairs creates groups of two. Random teams divides the list into larger groups: for example, 20 participants make 10 pairs, while the team tool can distribute them across four groups of five.

It is also different from a name draw. A draw selects one or more winners and leaves everybody else out; forming pairs keeps everyone in the result, except for a separately identified unpaired person when the total is odd.

How to prepare the list correctly

You can paste names from Excel, Google Sheets, text documents, student lists, player lists or internal records. Keep one person per line and remove blank lines. Before running the tool, check that everyone is included, spelling is correct and the list is final.

If two people share a name, add an initial, alias or identifier to distinguish them. The tool treats every line as a separate entry and cannot know whether two identical texts are an accidental duplicate or two different people.

New rounds and certified pairs

You can form the pairs again to start another round. Agree in advance when the process will be repeated so it is not regenerated only because someone dislikes a match. In a rotation, record previous results if you need to avoid repeat pairings, because the tool does not apply that history automatically.
