Random team and group generator online

Need to create random teams quickly, fairly and with balanced sizes? SorteosUp lets you enter a participant list and automatically distribute everyone across several groups, without deciding manually who belongs to each team.

The tool is designed for teachers, coaches, companies, associations, event organisers and groups of friends. Use it for a class, training session, competition, scavenger hunt, camp or any activity that requires dividing people.

How to create random teams

Paste all participants with one person per line. Then choose how to distribute them: set the number of teams you need or the approximate number of people in each group. When you select Create teams, the list is shuffled and distributed automatically.

For example, 24 participants and four teams produce groups of about six. With 30 participants and teams of five, six groups are created. There is no software or spreadsheet to install: it works on desktop, mobile and tablet.

When to choose the number of teams or people per team

Choose Number of teams when you already have a fixed number of pitches, tables, leaders, rooms, captains, spaces or simultaneous activities. Enter four teams, for example, and SorteosUp distributes everybody among those four groups.

Choose People per team when group size is the priority for workshops, school assignments, games or activities with a member limit. If the division is not exact, some teams have one extra person, but the maximum difference is one person.

What a random group generator is for

Random grouping removes doubt, preferences and the impression that the distribution favours someone. Everyone on the list takes part and nobody is left out. It is a neutral way to organise activities without wasting time on manual combinations.

  • Create groups for a class
  • Distribute players across sports teams
  • Organise a scavenger hunt, workshop or camp
  • Form work and discussion groups
  • Assign attendees to tables
  • Prepare games, contests and icebreaker activities

Random teams for the classroom

Teachers can vary group composition for each activity and stop students always working with the same people. Copy the class list, choose the number of groups or people per team and generate the result.

It is useful for projects, debates, experiments, reading, presentations, workshops, languages and contests. When minors take part, use only the data required: first names, initials, aliases or internal identifiers, and avoid unnecessary personal information.

Create random teams for football and sports

Coaches, activity leaders and players can use the generator for five-a-side, seven-a-side and eleven-a-side football, futsal, basketball, handball, volleyball, padel and training. Enter the players and select two, four or more teams.

The tool balances the number of people, not sporting ability. For competitive events where skill, age, position or experience matters, classify participants first or use seeds. With 15 players and two teams, the result contains teams of eight and seven.

Random groups for companies and team building

Companies can mix people from different departments for workshops, training, creative sessions, case studies, working groups and internal events. Generating the groups in front of everyone avoids preparing combinations beforehand and makes the process more transparent.

It also works for associations, meetings and groups of friends. Paste the full attendance list and get a distribution in seconds for collaborative challenges, company games, team-building activities or informal tournaments.

Random teams, pairs and name draws

The team generator creates groups of two or more people. If every combination must contain exactly two people, use Random pairs. If you need to select one or more winners, use the Name draw; that tool selects part of the list instead of distributing everybody.

SorteosUp provides different tools for each need: pairs, turn order, random numbers, Secret Santa, tournaments and teams. Choose teams when you want everyone included across several groups.

Instant results and certified teams

Instant generation is designed for classes, games, training and everyday distributions. You can clear the list or generate the teams again whenever you want to start a new round.

Configurations above 500 participants use the certified result. Before confirmation, the applicable cost from entry 501 is displayed and the technical traceability is preserved: date, participants, configuration, input hash, result and verifiable identifier. The certificate does not replace the organiser’s rules or responsibilities.

Tips for creating teams correctly

Check that every participant is included, there are no empty lines or accidental duplicates, and every line represents one person. When two people share a name, add an initial or identifier so they can be distinguished.

Decide whether you need a purely random distribution or teams balanced by ability. This tool distributes names and keeps sizes similar; it cannot automatically know strength, knowledge or experience. That is usually enough for recreational activities; competitions may need additional criteria.

Create your random teams now

There is no need to prepare combinations manually or spend time deciding who joins each group. Enter the participants above, select the number of teams or people per team and choose Create teams.

In seconds you will have a fast, simple and fair distribution for classes, sports, games, training, companies, events, camps and group activities.
